I was Wrong on Wang. It’s Wong

Leigh Sales interviewed the good senator yesterday

It seems that despite being spelt Wang, his name is actually pronounced Wong. It seems there are nuances of Mandarin pronunciation that the Minister of education understands and Leigh sales does not. So, it was a victory for the government. The first in a number of weeks. There must be rejoicing in the Lodge.

Sales admitted her mistake which was based on the fact that everybody’s been calling the Western Australian senator Wang since he got into Parliament.

Even as recently as this week, fellow PUP senator Senator Glenn Lazarus was pronouncing his colleague’s name as Wang in the Senate.

The amazing thing is Wang didn’t say anything, Not even to Glenn. Well he doesn’t say much anyhow. And you wouldn’t want to shirtfront the Senator the Brick with Eyes

I had no such excuse. I just wanted to put the boot into Christopher Pyne. Mea culpa.

There is a positive in all of this.

Wang has been falling behind very badly in the media stakes where colleague Jacqui Lambie has been hogging the limelight.

Now he’s had his 15 minutes of fame.
