Now that the University of Western Straggly has finally come to its senses and said it is not going to host Tony Abbott’s captain’s call on the climate change research Centre, Christopher Pyne has said, ” “Don’t worry, I’m certain we’ll find a new home.”
Accepting the grant for the centre would make any reputable university a laughingstock.
So where will Christopher put it?
At the Australian Catholic University, of course, this is a University with a reputation so low that accepting this research funding would probably be seen as a plus.
This is the university that has proposed creating scholarships named in honour of the two Australians executed for drug smuggling in Indonesia.
Is difficult to think of anything more stupid.
What self-respecting student would want to hold the “Stephen Chan, Drug smuggling Martyr” scholarship.
It’s tragic that the death sentence was applied to these two young men and most Australians abhor this fact. But, they were convicted drug smugglers, albeit rehabilitated, but drug smugglers nonetheless and attempts to glorify them in any way will only lead to ignominy and contempt for ACU.
Still, the search for relevance and respectability comes at a high price
