On the ABC current affairs program 7.30, the discussion centred around the growing tensions between the US and China in the South China Sea and that the US would be contacting Canberra as the crisis deepened seeking military support against Australia’s major trading partner.
It is the right of all nations to put their own interests first.
The difficult question for Australia’s Prime Minister will beware Australia’s interests lie. Whether they lie in Asia and with China guaranteeing navigation right through the South China Sea or whether they lie with America and confronting our major trading partner. With the US taking an increasingly protectionist and isolationist stance, it may be time for some tough decisions in Canberra.
