Budget bounce is a dead cat

The latest Guardian Essential poll.is consistent with polling undertaken by Newspoll, ReachTel and Ipsos, voting intentions post-budget have remained fixed, and Labor remains well ahead of the government on the two-party-preferred measure, 54% to 46%.

Derived from the idea that “even a dead cat will bounce if it falls from a great height”,[2] the phrase, is also popularly applied to any case where a subject experiences a brief resurgence during or following a severe decline.
